Praia Da Marinha

The most beautiful beach

Is Praia Da Marinha the Algarve's most beautiful beach?

If there’s one beach in the Algarve that looks like it was lifted straight from a postcard, it’s Praia da Marinha. Often called one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe – and even the world – Praia da Marinha offers a perfect mix of dramatic cliffs, turquoise water, and untouched natural beauty.

Swim and Snorkel in Clear Blue Waters

Praia da Marinha offers some of the best water quality in the Algarve. On calm days, visibility is excellent, making it a top spot for snorkeling. You’ll find schools of small fish, unique underwater rock formations, and – if you’re lucky – even an octopus or two.

Bring your own snorkel gear or pick some up in nearby shops before arriving.

Explore the Cliff-Top Hiking Trail

Above the beach is a portion of the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, one of the Algarve’s most scenic coastal hikes. You don’t need to walk the entire trail to enjoy it – even a 15-minute stroll from the parking area will reward you with jaw-dropping views.

This is also where you can photograph the famous “heart-shaped” sea arch, best seen from above.

Rent a Kayak to Visit the Benagil Caves

One of the best adventures you can have while visiting Praia da Marinha is to rent a kayak and paddle to the Benagil Caves. These caves – especially the one with the massive open ceiling – are among Portugal’s most iconic natural landmarks.

From Praia da Marinha, it’s a short paddle along the coastline, and you’ll get to explore sea arches, hidden beaches, and the Benagil Cave at your own pace.

Tip: Go in the morning for calm waters and fewer people. Rentals are available directly at the beach, and we’re happy to help you book with one of our trusted partners.

Enjoy a Beachside Lunch or Drink

At the base of the cliffs, tucked just behind the sand, is a small beach bar and restaurant. It’s a casual, local-style spot where you can grab a drink, some grilled fish, or a simple salad while enjoying the sound of the waves. Perfect for a low-key lunch or a cold beer after your swim.

There’s also a café near the top of the cliffs by the parking area, with additional options and restrooms.
